The Greens strengthened their position on Newbury Town Council after winning a seat in the Wash Common by-election last week. There are now three Green councillors on the council, which is otherwise dominated by Liberal Democrats. Last Thursday, Graham Storey won with a landslide victory of 923 votes, 437 more than the candidate in second place, Lib Dem hopeful Emily Hayes (486 votes). Conservative contender Archna Datta won 367 votes, while Simon Kirby, who stood as an independent, won 315 votes.
