Nykytyuk is survived by his wife and two sons. He began his career in law enforcement in 1991, working in the Volodymyr Department of Internal Affairs. Over the years, he held various positions in criminal investigation and, in March 2005, became the head of the Volodymyr police department, where he served for six years. Nykytyuk later became the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in the Volyn Oblast and subsequently the deputy head of the MIA in the Kherson Oblast.
