In a drastic move to resolve its acute housing shortage, the north-eastern Spanish city of Barcelona plans to abolish the rental of holiday flats by the end of 2028. All flats that are currently legally rented out to tourists for short-term stays will then be available for use by residents, Barcelona’s Mayor Jaume Collboni said on Friday. “From 2029, the city of Barcelona will no longer have holiday flats as we know them today.
