The European Commission announced on Monday that it had approved a €128 million ($139 million) Swedish state aid measure to support steel giant SSAB in decarbonizing its production processes. The commission said the measure would help in achieving EU climate targets and help end dependence on Russian fossil fuels, as well as accelerate the green economy transition. The aid supports SSAB’s aim to transition from the current coal-based steel production process in the northern city of Luleå to a nearly zero-emission system.
