On Saturday at 9 am (0700 GMT) on the dot, the stewards opened the entrances to Munich’s Oktoberfest, allowing visitors to rush towards the beer tents. Visitors to the Wiesn – as the event is known locally – then flocked in from all sides, most of them dressed in traditional dirndls and lederhosen. The first visitors had been waiting since early morning, some with blankets, thermoses and coffee, others with beer. However, these early Wiesn guests have to wait three hours before they can get their first litre of Oktoberfest beer. Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter will tap the first keg of beer at noon…
