Germany’s banking regulator BaFin has confiscated 13 illegal cryptocurrency cash machines in nationwide raids, securing some €250,000 ($278,000) in cash, the authority said on Tuesday. The regulator justified the move by saying that the machines, which can be used to exchange cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin for euros and vice versa, posed a risk of money laundering. Some 60 security forces were deployed in the joint operation conducted by BaFin, police and the German Central Bank.
