The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will open accession talks with Indonesia, it said on Tuesday. OECD secretary-general Mathias Cormann said the decision was historic, with Indonesia’s application the first from Southest Asia. “As the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the world’s third largest democracy, Indonesia is a significant global player, providing important leadership across its region and beyond” he said. “The decision to open accession discussions will benefit both Indonesia and the OECD.” Indonesia has been working with the OECD since 2007.
