SARASOTA. Fla. \- The Sarasota Police Department announced a historic drop in ‘Part I’ crime in 2023. For the first time since 1967, no homicides were reported in the City of Sarasota for an entire year. In 2022, the Sarasota Police Department investigated seven homicides. Murder rates are falling as part of a larger decline in violent crime. According to Sarasota Police records, the drop in Part I crimes from 2022 to 2023 is the largest in the city since 1999.
