An extremely curious wild boar which had been spotted in the centre of the German city of Mainz was shot by a hunter in the early hours of Thursday. Due to the danger the animal had posed to traffic and people, a hunter shot it at the Theodor Heuss Bridge, police said. Earlier on Wednesday, the forest dweller had been spotted near the Renaissance era Electoral Palace, the state parliament and the Hilton hotel, police said. Officers had set up roadblocks to try to prevent any traffic accidents, while the fire brigade used thermal imaging drones in an attempt to find the pig.
