At least 18 people have been killed by gunmen in central Nigeria, officials said on Saturday. The chairman of the Katsina-Ala local government area in the state of Benue, Justin Shaku, said the incident occurred late Friday night in the village of Mbacher. Shaku said in a statement that the gunmen moved from house to house forcing people to go with them. He said the attackers subsequently “assembled those they took in place and shot them.” “Eighteen people have been confirmed dead,” he said, adding that some villagers were wounded in the attack.
