More than 20 countries in the European Union reported a budget deficit in 2023, according to data published by Eurostat, the EU statistics agency, on Monday. Apart from Cyprus, Denmark, Ireland and Portugal, 23 EU countries spent more funds than they took in. Italy recorded the highest deficit at 7.4%, followed by Hungary at 6.7% and Romania at 6.6%.
