Former Peruvian president Alejandro Toledo on Monday was sentenced to 20 years and six months of prison for taking bribes in relation to a corruption scandal involving the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht. A court in Lima found that Toledo, who governed Peru from 2001 to 2006, accepted a bribe of $35 million in return for a contract to build a section Interoceanic Highway connecting Rio de Janiero to Lima.
