The former Austrian health minister Pamela Rendi-Wagner has been nominated to be the next director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the EU health authority said on Wednesday. Rendi-Wagner, a Vienna-born doctor, was Austria’s minister of health and women’s affairs in 2017 and was the first woman to chair the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) from 2018 to 2023.
