Jia Jingdong, vice president of Vivo’s brand in China, revealed some key information about the Vivo S19 and S19 Pro via his official Weibo account. The Vivo S19 series has previously appeared on Geekbench, and the design was also revealed through leaked posters of the phone.
Vivo The S19 and S19 Pro will be powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ respectively. While the S19 offers a massive 6000 mAh battery, the capacity is slightly lower at 5500 mAh for the Pro model, and both will support 80W charging. The S19 Pro will feature a 6.78-inch OLED display with a 2800 x 1260 resolution, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Confirming previous leaks, Jia Jingdong noted that the S19 Pro features the industry’s first 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 sensor, another 50-megapixel Sony sensor for telephoto (supports 50x digital zoom), and a “wide-angle dual soft light selfie camera with no distortion.” Both the S19 and S19 Pro offer a 50-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.
Vivo focuses on image processing for S19 series
The Vivo S19 series comes with a “soft light ring” added to the camera module. It aims to “evenly fill the subject with light” and reduce excessive shadow contrast on the face or any other objects.
When shooting with the main camera, it disperses light over a large area, and when switching to telephoto, it also adapts and focuses light into a narrower beam to cover distant objects, which seems to be a great implementation of existing technology. It reportedly offers perfect light distribution, light texture, and light color temperature for different scenes.
According to the spokesperson, the “ring of soft light” is a landmark innovation of the vivo S series. He also hints at how portraits can be better than those of foreign competitors. He says that in addition to using lines to separate the subject from the background, they also deliberately use shadows to add a touch of contrast to the subject.
In addition to the soft light ring in the camera module, the Vivo S19 series also offers “synchronized focus change”, which means that autofocus will be more reliable.
The Vivo S19 series is also equipped with the latest and ever-evolving portrait shooting algorithms. They have also encoded the preference for “beautiful things” into the artificial intelligence objective function through supervised machine learning.
