A tourist has died after being swept away by an avalanche in the Polish part of the High Tatra Mountains. Police told the PAP news agency on Sunday that the victim was a 34-year-old man from Poland. Relatives had alerted the mountain rescue service at midnight because the man had not returned from a hike he had undertaken alone. The accident occurred in the Świnicka Kotlinka area, not far from the tourist town of Zakopane.
