Eleven people died and 78 were injured in a fire that swept through farmland in south-eastern Turkey, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on X on Friday. The blaze broke out in an agricultural area in the Kurdish-majority province of Diyarbakir and spread to parts of the neighbouring province of Mardin due to strong winds, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. Six fire engines and 60 volunteers were deployed to fight the blaze which was brought under control, but some areas were still being cooled down, the local authorities said.
