There was a blessing for the fruit trees in Sawbridgeworth’s historic orchard and visitors added their voices by singing songs at the annual wassail. Organisers of the event at Rivers Heritage Site and Orchard (RHSO), off The Crest, reported that 100 people attended and everyone was kept warm by the embers of a bonfire. RHSO committee member Hazel Mead said the trees were lit with fairy lights and candle lanterns and the fire – which in previous years was taken care of by her late husband David –was successfully lit by other group members.
