A 30-year-old man standing outside his car on the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike after he hit a disabled vehicle involved in an earlier crash was struck and killed by another southbound vehicle early Monday. Alton Smith, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead following the last of the three crashes along the inner roadway of the Turnpike near milepost 64.8 in Robbinsville, State Police said.
