Projections based on initial election results in the eastern German state of Brandenburg give the incumbent centre-left Social Democrats a narrow lead over the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). The projections, released by public broadcasters ARD and ZDF at around 6:30 pm (1630 GMT) on Sunday, gave current Brandenburg state Premier Dietmar Woidke’s SPD 31.2% to 31.8% of the vote.
