Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim certification

A Samsung device with the model number SM-F958N was spotted on the Safety Korea Certification website. The SM-F958N is said to be the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim (or Ultra). So, Samsung seems to be fast-tracking the certification of the foldable smartphone ahead of the launch.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim launch date, availability

According to South Korean publication The Chosun Daily, Samsung may launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim in South Korea on September 25.

Later, the foldable smartphone may appear in China under the name Samsung Galaxy W25, as a competitor to the Huawei Mate X6 (upcoming) and Honor Magic V3.

There is no information about the availability of Z Fold 6 Slim in other markets, except for the two mentioned above.

Design features of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim

The Z Fold 6 Slim (model: SM-F958N, code name: Q6A) could be Samsung’s thinnest foldable smartphone to date. It could be as thin as 10 mm, which would be thinner than the 12.1 mm of the regular Z Fold 6.

To achieve such a thin profile, Samsung has reportedly removed the S-Pen compartment and the associated 0.3-millimeter film designed for the pen to enter. The company may have worked with its subsidiaries such as Samsung Displays and Samsung Electro-Mechaniscs to reduce the thickness of components such as the display panel and cameras. According to an industry official, “Samsung is doing everything possible to make it even 0.1 millimeters thinner… The global smartphone market is shifting to how thin the next product can be.”

Despite being thinner, the Slim version can have larger displays. Its inner screen could be 8mm versus 7.6mm for the regular model, and the cover screen could be 6.5 inches diagonally compared to 6.3 inches for the regular Z Fold 6.

It may still have more of Samsung’s design language though. Rumor has it that it will be available in black color. The vanilla Z Fold 6 is sold in several colors, namely: navy blue, silver, pink, white and black.

According to another report from the Dutch publication The Galaxy Club, Samsung may upgrade the camera below the display from 4 megapixels (on the regular Z Fold 6) to 5 megapixels. In addition, it is claimed to have a 10-megapixel front camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module (the same as the regular Z Fold 6).

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim (or Ultra) could cost around $2,100.
