A father and his eleven-year-old daughter were killed after being struck by lightning in the Bulgarian Balkan Mountains. The man and his two children had been travelling near the 2,169 metre-high peak of Kupena, state television BNT reported on Monday. His son was rescued by a military helicopter after the 13-year-old alerted the emergency services following the lightning strike. According to the report, the 47-year-old man was an experienced mountaineer. However, he had undertaken the mountain tour in unfavourable weather conditions, it said.
