The proportion of German cyclists wearing helmets rose to 44% in 2023, up from 40% the year before, according to a study compiled by the federal road transport authority (BASt) and published on Sunday. The rise continued a trend, the BASt, based in Bergisch Gladbach to the east of Cologne, said. In 2020, barely a quarter of cyclists wore helmets, and in 2010, the figure was just 9%.
