While Americans and British people both speak English, there are certain words and phrases that are exclusive to each country and to test people’s knowledge, The Focus asked a group of Americans to try and guess the meanings behind some British slang words. Brits’ use of the words ‘crisps’ and ‘chips’ when referring to ‘potato chips‘ and ‘French fries’ is already well-known, so we’ve attempted to pick out some slightly more obscure words when quizzing our assembled group of Americans.
