KATHMANDU, NEPAL — When Jane Dipika Garrett’s family learned that she’d applied to compete in Miss Universe Nepal, they assumed it was a joke. “No one,” she says, “believed I would win.” As a teenager, Garrett was bullied for several years for being overweight.
