US President Joe Biden has signed the budget package negotiated in Congress, averting a partial government shutdown, the White House said on Saturday. The bill is to fund government operations for the current financial year, through to the end of September. Congress passed the trillion-dollar package after a vote in the Senate. Theoretically, the deadline for a shutdown expired at midnight local time but in practice, government operations did not come to a standstill.
