A 33-year-old Newark police officer has been indicted on a slew of offenses related to a shooting that occurred while he was off-duty in early June. Officer Wali A. Burks, of Newark, allegedly provided his personal firearm to a man accused of firing the weapon outside of a Newark bar in June, then tried to cover up his involvement in the incident. No injuries were reported in the shooting.
