Recruit Joel Haslam from Lynn has followed in the wake of his parents and joined the Royal Navy, completing his 10-week basic training at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall. Having previously studied at Wymondham College and worked in the Dabbling Duck pub in Great Massingham, Joel was drawn to the sea by tales from his retired Naval parents, Captain Phillip Haslam and Lieutenant Elizabeth Haslam. Both were present to see their son join the Fleet, proudly cheering him on as he completed his passing-out parade in the seasonal Cornish sunshine.
