Second-seeded Hubert Hurkacz of Poland outlasted Marcos Giron of the United States 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 in the men’s singles first round at the Japan Open tennis championships Wednesday. Hurkacz, ranked eighth in the world, hit 17 aces and converted three of his six break points to seal the win in a little over 2 hours on the Ariake Colosseum hard court.
