SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. \- A major crash involving two vehicles has shut down all southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail South (U.S. 41) at Colonia Lane East in Nokomis. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Florida Highway Patrol in the investigation. Several people involved in the crash have been taken to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not yet known. The road closure is expected to last for an extended period. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
