An international conference has mobilized €800 million ($865 million) in immediate humanitarian aid for Lebanon, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Thursday as the conference ended in Paris. A further €200 million had been raised to reinforce the country’s armed forces, he said. The conference brought together around 70 countries and international organizations. France, the former mandate power in Lebanon, contributed €100 million, while Germany stumped up €96 million. The UN has estimated the country’s urgent need at €400 million.
