An entire resort village in southern Italy, housing around a thousand holidaymakers, was evacuated on Wednesday due to a serious forest fire. People were led to safety from the Baia San Felice complex near the small town of Vieste on the Adriatic coast because the flames were getting dangerously close. Several fire brigade units were deployed to fight the blaze. Aeroplanes were used to try to contain the fires from the air – but initially without much success.
