Heavy rainfall has again caused serious damage in northern Italy, with several regions including Tuscany hit by flooding. Roads and houses have been submerged in water after days of downpours, with rivers and canals bursting their banks. Emergency services had to rescue more than a dozen motorists who were stranded on the roofs of their vehicles overnight near Pisa. Authorities in Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia-Romagna warned residents to take extra care over the weekend. In the greater Turin area, authorities advised people to stay at home, and avoid travelling by car and hiking.
