The UN’s World Heritage Committee has decided to add the Saint Hilarion Monastery, also known as Tell Umm Amer, to the group’s World Heritage List. The move was made using an emergency procedure, citing “the threats to this heritage site posed by the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.” The site was simultaneously added to UNESCO’s List of World Heritage in Danger.
