A German court handed down fines to four climate activists on Thursday for throwing paint at the World Clock, a monument on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz. The Tiergarten District Court found the four, aged between 22 and 28, guilty of criminal damage to property. The fines fell far short of the prosecution’s demand for suspended sentences of six months for the members of the Last Generation protest group and a prison sentence of nine months for a 24-year-old.
