There are too many New Jersey military service men and women in America’s history to name and honor them all in a short column like mine. For this Memorial Day weekend, though, I wanted to highlight one amazing naval officer, who retired at the age of 79 — and who also helped pioneer the development of the electronic computer. Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopperwas the oldest serving officer in the U.S. Armed Forces. During her illustrious career, she helped to standardize the Navy’s multiple computer languages.
