Like most Newark residents, I was distressed to read about the vandalism at the Orchard School over the Easter break. It touched a particular chord for me. One of the first assignments I undertook as a newly elected councillor last year was to open the garden at the school which the students had been involved in creating. It was wonderful to meet the students and witness their excitement and pride in what they’d achieved. It was also a privileged insight into the great work that staff at the school do.
