Google recently introduced the Pixel 9 series, consisting of three models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL. Google usually adds the mid-range “A” series model later, as it did with the Pixel 8a, which launched in May 2024. Now, the first renders of the alleged Pixel 9a have surfaced, showing significant design changes.

According to a pair of leaked images shared by @VNchocoTaco on X, the alleged Pixel 9a will ditch the signature Pixel visor in favor of a minimalist camera island that barely protrudes from the flat back. The sides of the device are also flat, with a slight curve around the edges to make them comfortable to hold. The size of the bezel is similar to its predecessor.

Although the legitimacy of these images has not yet been confirmed, user X claims that the person who shared these images is an employee of Compal. For those who are unaware, Compal manufactures many products for Google, and it looks like the brand could have used it to create the Pixel 9a.

This redesign of the Pixel 9a seems to be an attempt by the brand to differentiate the Pixel A series from the flagship models by giving them a more distinct identity. There is currently no information on specifications, but based on past trends, we can expect the device to debut with a Tensor G4 chip. It will be interesting to see if the 9a brand devices will get an improved camera, as the Pixel 8a and Pixel 7a use almost the same camera hardware.
