The Rakuten Viber team asked Ukrainians whether they get nervous about unread chats, both incoming messages and sent messages that have gone unanswered. Over 40 thousand users took part in the survey on the official Rakuten Viber Ukraine channel.

If there is no answer

The results of the survey showed that about half (49%) of Ukrainians get nervous when they do not receive a response from their relatives or friends. In addition, 16% of respondents worry about the lack of feedback, regardless of who they wrote to.

Another 3% of respondents feel anxious when their work-related messages are ignored. On the other hand, 27% of respondents do not pay attention to unanswered messages, and 5% are not familiar with this feeling at all.

The answers to the question “If you send a message that goes unread, do you get nervous?” were as follows:

  • I get nervous only if it’s someone close to me/my friends, in case something happens – 49%;
  • I do not pay attention to this. Everyone has a different pace of life and their own affairs, they will answer later – 27%;
  • Yes, I worry when I don’t get a response – 16%;
  • This feeling is not familiar – 5%;
  • I get nervous only when it comes to work – 3%.

The Rakuten Viber team also asked Ukrainians whether they feel anxious about unread messages in their own chats. 37% of respondents do not feel nervous because they always monitor important conversations, while 20% do not pay attention to it. In addition, 25% of Ukrainians feel irritated, not anxious, in such cases.

At the same time, 10% of respondents feel anxious when they miss a message. The remaining 8% of respondents feel stressed when there are a lot of unread notifications.

The answers to the question “Do you feel anxious about unread chats?” were distributed as follows:

  • I’m not worried, because I always monitor chats that are important to me – 37%;
  • I’m not worried, but it’s sometimes annoying – 25%;
  • I don’t pay attention to it – 20%;
  • Yes, I start to worry when I miss a message – 10%;
  • I only worry when there is a large number of them – 8%.

The research methodology is an anonymous online survey, n>41,000. The key age group is 34-45 years old, with more than 50% of respondents under the age of 45.
