A free landline phone recently installed at the Summit Free Public Library has been a major success in an era when public telephones have virtually disappeared. Officials at the Union County library installed the landline phone in early February after the staff came up with the idea last fall, said Amy Behr-Shields, the library’s director. The group held a brainstorming session and the top idea was to install a phone for public use, she said.
