Cambridge City Council has stopped short of declaring a water emergency, voting instead to acknowledge that the area has a “water crisis”. The Labour-run council was urged in a motion by the Green Party to follow its 2019 declarations of biodiversity and climate emergencies by doing the same for water. The Environment Agency is currently objecting to large-scale developments in the Cambridge region due to an over-reliance on the chalk aquifer for the the area’s water supply.
