At least nine people are dead after an open wooden boat carrying migrants from Africa capsized in rough seas near the Spanish Canary Islands on Saturday. A total of 84 people were on board the boat. So far, 27 people have been rescued from the water, according to the Spanish sea rescue service. The search for the missing 48 people remains under way off the shore of the island of El Hierro.
