Estonia’s second largest city, Tartu, has officially kicked off its year as European Capital of Culture 2024, with hundreds of events planned over the next few months. The celebrations were opened on Friday evening with a colourful live open-air show. The centrepiece of the opening ceremony was a multimedia performance entitled “All is one” on the banks of the River Emajõgi, which featured theatre, music and dance.
