China’s Xie Yu held his nerve to seize Olympic gold in the men’s 10 metre air pistol competition after edging out two Italians on Sunday. The 24-year-old, in his first Games, amassed 240.9 as Federico Nilo Maldini shot 240.0 for silver. European champion Paolo Monna took bronze at the French national shooting centre in Chateauroux, 275 kilometres south of Paris. The women’s final is later on Sunday, with China also going for gold.
