A team of scientists, led by Rebecca Varney at UC Santa Barbara, discovered that chitons are interesting marine mollusks. Unlike their relatives, such as squid, snails, and scallops, chitons don’t have eyes on their soft bodies. Instead, their sensory organs are embedded in their segmented shells.
