Five boaters were rescued near Ellis Island Friday afternoon when a sailboat they were in capsized, officials with the New York Police Department said. At around 3:30 p.m. Friday the NYPD Harbor unit was dispatched for a call that a sailboat had capsized with five people on board, authorities said. The NYPD boat pulled one person from the water while a nearby civilian boat rescued the other four people in the water, the NYPD said Friday night.
