The lower house of the Czech Parliament on Wednesday rejected a bid to legalize same-sex marriage. Same-sex couples in the European Union country of 10.5 million have been able to register a civil partnership since 2006. However, couples are not able to adopt children jointly, own property together or receive widows’ and widowers’ pensions.
