Sahra Wagenknecht, long an icon of Germany’s far left, has been campaigning to shake up the country’s political spectrum with her own upstart party built around a populist appeal she dubs “left conservatism.” Her newly launched party, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), broke from the hard-left Die Linke (The Left) party in January and scored 6.2% of the vote in Germany during June’s European Parliament elections.
