World record holder Thomas Ceccon of Italy won the men’s 100-metre backstroke at the Paris Games. Ceccon claimed a second swimming gold for Italy after Nicolò Martinenghi won the men’s 100m breaststroke on Sunday. He finished 0.32 seconds ahead of China’s Xu Jiayu, who repeated his result from the 2016 Olympics in Rio in the event. American Ryan Murphy, the Olympic record holder and winner at Rio 2016, had to settle for bronze.
