A florist has shut after more than 60 years in a town as rising costs made it “impossible” to continue operating. Michelle Avery took on Flowerworks of Swanley in 2011, after first starting out at the shop as a flower girl when she was 15. The now 52-year-old said: “I began there originally when it was Steven’s Flowers as a Saturday girl. “I then worked my way up and when the owner retired I took it over and renamed it.” The florist catered for a number of events including weddings and funerals, and also offered regular bouquets.
