The deputy speaker of Slovakia’s parliament said he will spend a day cleaning the streets as penance for fleeing the scene of a car crash. Andrej Danko, a nationalist politician and a candidate in the central European country’s March 23 presidential election, posted on Facebook that removing the dirt and debris from the roads was a way to make amends. Danko’s car struck and broke a traffic light in Bratislava on the night of January 18. Instead of waiting for the police to arrive, however, the 49-year-old drove home.
